The ground rules for using Book of Life.
By downloading, installing, or using Book of Life ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
Book of Life is a personal reflection and journaling application developed by Automata Vista LLC. The App uses AI-powered thread detection (the Thread Engine™) to identify patterns in your journal entries and generate insights, wisdom cards, and thread collisions.
Book of Life is NOT a medical device, therapy service, mental health treatment, or counseling tool. The Thread Engine provides reflections and pattern observations, not professional advice. AI-generated content (wisdom cards, thread detection, enrichment insights) may not always be accurate or appropriate.

You retain full ownership of all content you create in the App, including journal entries, recordings, and any text you provide. Your entries are stored locally on your device. We do not claim any ownership or license over your personal content.
Wisdom cards, thread names, thread collisions, and enrichment insights are generated by AI (Claude by Anthropic). This content is generated specifically for you based on your entries. While we strive for meaningful and helpful reflections, AI-generated content is provided "as is" without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or appropriateness.
Book of Life offers one subscription: Cosmos Keeper ($6.99/month), which unlocks the full experience. All new users receive a 10-day free trial — no payment required. Subscriptions are managed through Apple's App Store and are subject to Apple's subscription terms. You can cancel at any time through your Apple ID settings.

Book of Life, Thread Engine™, and all associated logos, designs, and content are the property of Automata Vista LLC. The Thread Engine™ is patent pending. All rights reserved.
Your journal entries, threads, wisdom cards, memorial stars, and all personal content are stored locally on your device. The App creates automatic backups on each launch, stored in the app's Documents directory and included in your iCloud device backup. You may also export your data manually at any time from Settings.
While we implement multiple layers of data protection, no software or electronic storage medium can guarantee absolute data permanence. Mobile devices are subject to hardware failures, operating system behavior (including memory management and storage recovery), power interruptions, software conflicts, and other factors outside any app developer's control. We strongly recommend exporting your data regularly (at least every two weeks) and keeping iCloud Backup enabled on your device.
If your data is ever lost, you can restore from the most recent automatic backup via Settings → Data & Privacy → Restore from Backup.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Automata Vista LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to emotional distress, loss of data, or reliance on AI-generated content. This includes, without limitation, any loss of journal entries, recordings, threads, wisdom cards, or other user-created content resulting from device malfunction, operating system behavior, storage corruption, app termination by the operating system, or any other cause.
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and data integrity or permanence. We do not warrant that your data will be preserved indefinitely or that recovery will be possible in all circumstances.
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy, available at threadengine.ai/privacy. Please review it carefully.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
