Chapter 1
Welcome
Book of Life is a voice-first life-recording app. Speak your life into it — no prompts, no templates, no structure required. Say what's on your mind. Tell it what happened today. Share the memory that came back to you on your morning walk. Ask the question you've been carrying for years. The app receives all of it.
Over time, the Thread Engine™ — a patent-pending AI system at the heart of the app — weaves the threads of your life into a visible tapestry. Your entries become stars. Your patterns become constellation lines. Your cosmos takes shape.
This is not a productivity tool. It is not a habit tracker. It is a witness — a place where your life is recorded, recognized, and reflected back to you in the language of the universe.

Chapter 3
Recording Your Life
The central act of Book of Life is simple: you speak, and the app listens. There are no categories to fill in, no rating scales, no mood tags. Your raw voice is the input. Everything else flows from there.
How to Record
- Tap the microphone icon on the main screen to begin a recording session.
- Speak naturally. Don't try to structure your thoughts — raw and unfiltered is better. The Thread Engine is designed to find signal in the real texture of your speech, not polished summaries.
- Your words are transcribed in real time using advanced speech recognition (Deepgram Nova-3). You can watch the text appear as you speak.
- When you're done, tap to stop. Your entry is saved locally on your device.
- Every entry is then analyzed by the Thread Engine for patterns and connections to your previous entries.
Entry Limits
- After the 10-day free trial, a Cosmos Keeper subscription ($6.99/month) unlocks unlimited entries.
- On the Constellation tier, entries are unlimited — record as many as you like, as often as you like.
- During your 10-day free trial, you have full Constellation-tier access with no restrictions.
What to Record
Anything. Truly. Some people record a daily account of what happened. Some record only when something feels significant. Some ask questions they don't know the answers to. Some share memories from thirty years ago. Some speak to people they've lost. All of it is valid. All of it feeds the Thread Engine. All of it becomes part of your cosmos.
"The longer you stay, the richer it gets."

Chapter 4
The Thread Engine™
The Thread Engine™ is the intelligence at the heart of Book of Life. It is a patent-pending AI system designed for one purpose: to discover the deep, recurring patterns woven through your life — the threads that run beneath the surface of your days.
Most journaling apps record. The Thread Engine remembers. It listens across all your entries — across months, across years — and begins to recognize what matters to you, what returns to you, and what connects in ways you might not have noticed yourself.
How It Works
- Every entry you record is analyzed by the Thread Engine for themes, patterns, and connections.
- The engine compares each new entry against all your previous entries, looking for recurring ideas, relationships, emotional patterns, and life themes.
- When it finds a pattern strong enough to name, it creates a Thread — a poetic label for what it detected.
- The engine tracks which entries belong to which threads, how strong each thread is, and when threads intersect in unexpected ways.
- It also categorizes threads across life domains — family, creativity, career, health, spirituality, and more.
What Makes It Different
- Poetic, not clinical. Thread names are not diagnostic labels. They are evocative titles — phrases that feel like titles of chapters in the book of your life.
- Temporal depth. The engine connects entries separated by months or years. It sees longitudinal patterns that in-the-moment reflection cannot.
- Cross-domain. It can detect that a thread showing up in your work entries is also present in your family entries and your creative entries. It sees bridges you might not see yourself.
- It deepens over time. The more you record, the more nuanced the detection becomes. Early threads may be broad. Later threads are specific, personal, unmistakably yours.
"The Thread Engine does not analyze you. It witnesses you — and names what it sees."
Chapter 5
Threads
A Thread is a recurring life pattern — a theme the Thread Engine has detected across multiple entries. Every thread has a poetic name. Every thread grows or fades based on how often it appears in your entries. Together, your threads form the warp and weft of the tapestry your life is becoming.
Thread Strength
Each thread has a strength score from 0–100%, reflecting how frequently and recently it has appeared across your entries. New threads begin weak. Threads you return to again and again grow strong. Threads you haven't touched in a while begin to fade.
Thread Statuses
Emerging
1–3 entries. Just beginning to take shape.
Growing
4–7 entries. A pattern is forming.
Strong
8+ entries. A confirmed, deep thread of your life.
Fading
Has gone inactive. Still present, just quiet.
Resolved
A chapter you have moved through. Honored and complete.
Bridges
Bridges are a special class of thread — threads that span three or more distinct life domains simultaneously. They are rare and considered among the most significant patterns the Thread Engine can detect. A Bridge suggests that a single deep current runs through multiple areas of your life at once, connecting domains that might appear unrelated on the surface.
Viewing Your Threads
- Open the Threads view from the main screen to see all your active threads.
- Threads are organized by strength — your strongest threads appear first.
- Tap any thread to see which entries it has woven together.
- Thread lines in the cosmos view visually connect the stars (entries) that share a thread.
Chapter 6
Constellations
Every ten entries form a constellation. This is the fundamental unit of your cosmos — a chapter of your life, made visible as a pattern of stars in your firmament. Constellation lines connect stars that share threads, revealing the shape of what you've been living through.
How Constellations Form
- Entries 1–10 form your first constellation. Entries 11–20 form your second. And so on.
- As entries accumulate, stars appear in the cosmos view. Thread lines connect stars that share a thread.
- When the tenth entry of a constellation is recorded, the constellation is complete.
Completion and the Firmament
When a constellation completes, something beautiful happens: it recedes into the background of your firmament as a permanent, softly glowing pattern — what we call "claimed sky." The constellation you just filled becomes part of the permanent architecture of your cosmos. It will be there always, a backdrop to everything that comes after.
As new constellations fill and recede, your cosmos builds up in layers. Early constellations glow faintly behind newer ones. Your entire history is present, always — just as stars from a thousand years ago are still present in tonight's sky.
What Completion Triggers
- Every completed constellation generates a Wisdom Card — a unique reflection woven from your own words by the Thread Engine.
- The constellation's stars and lines are preserved permanently as a background pattern in your firmament.
No two users' skies look the same. Your cosmos is a uniquely personal record — shaped by your words, your patterns, and the specific threads the engine has discovered in your life.
Chapter 7
Wisdom Cards
Every time a constellation completes — every ten entries — the Thread Engine generates a Wisdom Card. This is not a generic affirmation or an AI-written platitude. It is a reflection drawn directly from your own words: the themes the engine found, the patterns it detected, the connections it made across your ten entries. Your wisdom, reflected back to you.
What a Wisdom Card Contains
- A title — the thread or theme at the heart of this constellation's wisdom.
- A short, poetic reflection woven from your actual entries.
- The visual language of your cosmos — deep space, gold, and the design of your firmament.
Sharing Your Wisdom Cards
- Tap any wisdom card to expand it and see the full text.
- Each card is shareable — tap the share button to send it to Instagram, Facebook, iMessage, or save it as an image to your camera roll.
- Every shared card is a piece of your authentic voice, your actual insight, made beautiful.
The Wisdom Gallery
- All your wisdom cards are stored permanently in the Wisdom Gallery, accessible from the main screen.
- Cards are organized chronologically — earliest to most recent.
- The Gallery is a record of every constellation you've completed, every chapter of your life the app has witnessed.
"A wisdom card is not the app speaking to you. It is your life speaking to you, through the app."
Chapter 8
Thread Collisions
Thread Collisions are the rarest and most significant event in Book of Life. They occur when a single entry connects two threads that have never shared an entry before — two separate rivers of your life suddenly flowing into the same moment.
A collision is not engineered. It is discovered. You didn't intend it. The Thread Engine simply recognized that what you just said touched something that two previously unconnected patterns both have claim to. In that moment, a bridge forms across time.
How Collisions Appear
- Thread Collisions appear as a deep indigo card with crossing thread lines and a pulsating starburst at the center — the visual metaphor for two streams becoming one.
- The card includes both thread names, the entry that triggered the collision, and a poetic insight generated by the Thread Engine about what the collision reveals.
- A distinct notification alerts you when a collision occurs.
The Weavings Section
- All your thread collisions are preserved in the Weavings section.
- Revisit them at any time. They often grow in meaning the longer you sit with them.
- A collision record contains the collision insight, the triggering entry, and the date it occurred.
"Thread Collisions are the app finding links you didn't know existed. These are moments of unexpected connection — and they are among the most personal things the app can show you."

Chapter 9
The Neural Nebula
Deep in your cosmos, a shape is forming. As your constellations complete and your threads multiply, a Neural Nebula begins to grow — a brain-shaped cosmic cloud that represents the intelligence and depth your life is building up inside the app.
What the Nebula Is
- The Neural Nebula is a visible, living representation of your thread network — the sum of your patterns, your connections, your accumulated wisdom.
- It is multi-colored: teal, violet, orange, magenta, with a bright luminous core and radiating dendrite filaments that pulse gently as new patterns form.
- It is shaped like a brain — but subtly. It whispers the shape rather than declaring it. You feel it before you recognize it.
- New neurons light up as you reach milestones — new constellations completed, new threads discovered, new collisions recorded.
Your Nebula Is Unique
Because the nebula grows from your specific thread patterns, no two users' nebulas look alike. Its shape, density, and coloration reflect the particular texture of your life — the domains you inhabit, the patterns that repeat, the connections that have formed. It is as individual as your fingerprint.
The Neural Nebula is visible in your cosmos view — hover at the edge of your firmament, and you will find it waiting there, glowing softly, a testament to the intelligence of your lived experience.

Chapter 10
Memorial Stars
Memorial Stars are the most emotionally significant feature in Book of Life. They are permanent points of light placed in your firmament in memory of someone dear who has passed — a loved one, a teacher, a companion, anyone whose absence you carry.
Unlike every other star in your cosmos, a Memorial Star never evolves, never recedes, and never disappears. It remains in your firmament across every tier, every constellation, every chapter of your journey. Always there. Always visible.
The Spiritual Foundation
Memorial Stars draw from two ancient sources. Malachi 3:16 — "A book of remembrance was written before Him, for those who revered the Lord and honored His name." Your firmament is your book of remembrance. A Memorial Star inscribes a beloved name into that book. And Ecclesiastes 4:12 — "A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." You, the person you've lost, and the thread of memory that connects you across time. That cord lives in the star.
Two Ways to Create a Memorial Star
1. The Thread Engine Senses It
When you record an entry that speaks of someone who has passed — grief, remembrance, honoring their memory — the Thread Engine may gently offer: "It sounds like someone important is on your mind. Would you like to place a star in your firmament in their memory?"
- "Yes, I'd like that" — opens the Memorial Star creator immediately.
- "Not now" — the prompt closes quietly, without judgment. It may reappear if the theme returns in future entries.
2. Manual Creation
Go to Settings → Memorial Stars → Place a Memorial Star at any time. No thread detection is needed — you choose when and who, on your own terms.
Creating Your Memorial Star
When you create a Memorial Star, you choose:
- Name — the full name of your beloved, as long as you need.
- Star Color — five options, each carrying its own emotional resonance.
- Dedication — up to 75 characters. A phrase, dates, something they always said, a simple thought.
- Photo (optional) — a small thumbnail that appears when you tap the star. A face, a moment, a place they loved.
Star Colors
How Memorial Stars Appear
Memorial Stars are visually distinct from every other star in your firmament. They are surrounded by a warm, layered haze — a soft nebula-like glow that makes them unmistakable. Four layers of light radiate outward from a bright white core. They pulse gently — more steadily and brightly than regular stars. They anchor the firmament rather than competing with constellations.
Interacting With a Memorial Star
- Tap a Memorial Star to see the name, dedication, photo (if uploaded), and an option to edit.
- Long-press for about half a second to enter repositioning mode — drag the star to any position in your sky. Release to save its new location permanently.
- Place stars with intention: near a particular constellation that feels right, in a quiet corner of the sky, or front and center where you'll see it every time you open the app.
The Toggle
In Settings → Memorial Stars, there is an on/off toggle. If looking at a Memorial Star becomes emotionally difficult on a given day, you can temporarily hide all Memorial Stars. They are not deleted — they are simply veiled. Turn them back on whenever you are ready. No data is lost. No star is ever gone.
Managing Memorial Stars
- Place a new star — tap "Place a Memorial Star" in Settings.
- View all your stars — each is listed with its color, name, and dedication.
- Edit any star — tap a star in the list to update its name, dedication, color, or photo.
- Remove a star — inside the editor, scroll to "Remove Memorial Star." Confirmation required. This action cannot be undone.
- Toggle visibility — hide or show all memorial stars with the main toggle.
Permanence
- Memorial Stars never recede, never cycle, never complete.
- They are visible on every tier — free and paid alike.
- Memorial Stars are never paywalled. The ability to place a star in memory of a loved one is not a subscription feature. It is available to every user, always.
- As constellations fill, complete, and recede into the firmament, Memorial Stars remain fixed — immovable anchors in an ever-growing sky.
"People have named stars after loved ones for centuries. But those were always someone else's stars — distant, anonymous, assigned by a catalog. A Memorial Star is YOUR star, in YOUR cosmos, placed among YOUR constellations and threads. When you see that gentle pulse of blue or gold or pink — that's not a symbol. That's a presence."
"The Book of Life promises that nothing ever disappears. A Memorial Star is that promise made luminous."
"A book of remembrance was written before Him, for those who revered the Lord and honored His name." — Malachi 3:16

Chapter 11
Breathe — Meditation & Wellness
Book of Life is not only a journaling app. It is a wellness tool. The act of reflection — of sitting with your own experience, giving voice to what has happened, noticing what returns — is itself a contemplative practice. And the Breathe feature exists to support that practice directly.
The Breathing Guide
- Tap the Breathe icon to open the built-in breathing guide.
- A blue nebula visualization fills the screen — it expands as you inhale and contracts as you exhale, giving you a visual anchor for your breath.
- Haptic feedback is synchronized with the breath phases — a gentle pulse confirms the rhythm of the inhale and exhale without requiring you to watch the screen.
- The screen stays awake during breathing sessions, so you don't have to reach for your phone to keep the session going.
Using Breathe Before Recording
Many users find that taking even two or three minutes with the breathing guide before recording leads to richer, more honest entries. Centering yourself before speaking tends to bring depth to the surface. The breath creates a small gap between ordinary time and recording time — and in that gap, the real material often rises.
Book of Life understands that the app is not separate from your inner life. It is a tool in service of it. The Breathe feature makes that relationship explicit.

Chapter 12
Cosmic Ambient Soundscapes
The cosmos is not silent. Book of Life includes a collection of ambient sound presets designed to deepen the contemplative atmosphere of your sessions — to make the act of recording, reflecting, and breathing feel like entering a different quality of time.
How to Use Soundscapes
- Access soundscapes through Settings or through the cosmos view.
- Choose from multiple presets, each designed to create a distinct immersive quality.
- Soundscapes can play during recording sessions, breathing sessions, or simply while you gaze at your firmament.
- Volume is independently adjustable — soundscapes blend with, rather than overriding, the rest of your audio environment.
The soundscapes are designed with one goal: to help you arrive. To make the transition from ordinary busyness to the quiet presence that produces real reflection. They are not entertainment. They are an invitation.
Chapter 13
Shooting Stars & Gratitude
Every so often, a shooting star crosses your cosmos. It arrives without announcement — a streak of light carrying a reflection prompt or a gratitude invitation. It pauses long enough for you to read it, then continues its arc and fades.
Rarity and Colors
Shooting stars come in three rarity tiers, each with its own color:
- Gold — the rarest. A gold shooting star is an unexpected blessing. Pause when you see one.
- Cyan — uncommon. A cool, clear light carrying a gentle prompt.
- Violet — rare. A deeper, more contemplative invitation.
The Inspiration Behind Shooting Stars
The shooting star feature was inspired by the Yasaka Taxi cabs of Kyoto — a fleet of black taxis, all identical, except that one of them bears a single gold star on its side. No one knows which cab has the star. Finding it in traffic is considered good luck. The gold shooting star in Book of Life carries that same spirit: you cannot predict when it will come. When it does, it is a small gift.
What Shooting Stars Carry
- Gratitude prompts — invitations to notice and name what you are thankful for.
- Reflection questions — gentle provocations to look at something from a new angle.
- Wisdom fragments — brief poetic observations calibrated to your current wisdom lens.
Chapter 14
Wisdom Lenses
Every life can be seen through many lenses. The same experience — a loss, a creative breakthrough, a moment of ordinary joy — looks different depending on the tradition, philosophy, or framework you bring to it. Wisdom Lenses let you choose the perspective that resonates most deeply with you.
The Eight Lenses
UniversalDefault. Draws from the broadest range of human wisdom.
WellnessGrounded in psychological and somatic wellbeing.
ChristianDraws on Scripture, grace, and spiritual formation.
JewishDraws on Torah, Talmud, and the Jewish spiritual tradition.
BuddhistDraws on impermanence, mindfulness, and the dharma.
IslamicDraws on Quranic wisdom and the Sufi traditions.
PhilosophicalDraws on Western and Eastern philosophy, Stoicism, existentialism, and beyond.
ScientificDraws on psychology, neuroscience, and the language of evidence.
How Lenses Affect the App
- Your selected lens shapes how the Thread Engine frames your thread names, wisdom card language, and shooting star prompts.
- The same entry, run through a Buddhist lens and then a Jewish lens, may surface different facets of meaning.
- Lenses do not change your entries or your threads — they change the vocabulary used to reflect your life back to you.
- Change your lens at any time in Settings. There is no lock-in and no wrong choice.
"The same life looks different through Buddhist, Jewish, or Scientific eyes. Try more than one. The variations are themselves revealing."
Chapter 15
The Big Bang
The first time you open Book of Life, the universe begins. A golden pinhole of light appears against infinite darkness — and then, in a slow, dramatic expansion, the cosmos blooms. Stars scatter. Nebulae form. Your firmament comes into existence.
This is the Big Bang: a creation moment that sets the tone for everything that follows. You are not opening an app. You are creating a universe.
Settings
- The Big Bang plays automatically on first launch.
- You can toggle it on or off in Settings — enabling it will replay the creation sequence the next time you open the app.
- Some users replay it on significant days — anniversaries, new years, beginnings — as a small ritual of recommitment.
Chapter 16
Life Domains
The Thread Engine understands that life is not a single continuous stream — it is a set of overlapping territories. Life Domains are the categories through which the engine organizes threads, giving you a map of which areas of your life are generating the most pattern activity.
The Domains
- Family — relationships with parents, children, siblings, extended family.
- Creativity — making things: art, writing, music, design, expression.
- Career — work, vocation, ambition, professional identity.
- Health — body, illness, wellness, physical and mental state.
- Spirituality — faith, practice, meaning, transcendence, the sacred.
- Relationships — friendship, love, community, belonging.
- Inner Life — dreams, moods, introspection, the life beneath the life.
- Growth — learning, change, becoming, transformation over time.
Domain Colors in Your Cosmos
Thread-colored constellation lines glow with domain-specific colors, creating a visual language for the different territories of your life. Family threads tend toward amber and rose. Creativity threads lean violet and cyan. Spirituality threads carry deep indigo and gold. The colors are not arbitrary — they reflect the emotional resonance of each domain.
Bridges Across Domains
When a thread spans three or more domains simultaneously, it becomes a Bridge — the rarest and most significant category of thread. A Bridge suggests a deep pattern running beneath the surface distinctions of your life, connecting what seems separate. Bridges are highlighted distinctly in the Threads view.
StarGuide
StarGuide is the life domain configuration system within Settings. Here you can customize how domains are weighted, which domains are most active, and how the Thread Engine prioritizes its pattern detection across the landscape of your life.

Chapter 20
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Book of Life
The Thread Engine rewards consistency. Here are the practices that users report making the greatest difference in the depth and richness of their experience.
-
Record regularly. Daily entries help the Thread Engine detect deeper patterns. It doesn't need to be long — even two minutes of honest speech gives the engine something to work with. Consistency over length.
-
Speak naturally. Don't try to structure your thoughts or make them presentable. Raw is better. The Thread Engine is designed to find signal in the real texture of your speech — the hesitations, the loops, the things you keep coming back to.
-
Revisit your wisdom cards. Reading a wisdom card six months after it was generated often reveals something that wasn't visible at the time. Return to your Wisdom Gallery the way you'd return to an old journal.
-
Use the breathing guide before recording. Centering yourself before speaking leads to richer, more honest entries. The breath creates a small gap — and in that gap, the real material often surfaces.
-
Try different wisdom lenses. The same life looks different through Buddhist, Jewish, or Scientific eyes. Spending a week under each lens can reveal facets of your patterns that the default lens doesn't surface.
-
Place memorial stars with intention. Choose a position in your cosmos that feels right — near a constellation that relates to this person, or in a quiet corner of the sky where you'll see them without being overwhelmed. They become anchors in your firmament.
-
Share your wisdom cards. Each shared card is a piece of your authentic voice — not a curated highlight reel, but a genuine reflection drawn from your life. Some users find that sharing sparks meaningful conversations they wouldn't otherwise have had.
-
Trust the Thread Engine. It sees across time in a way that in-the-moment reflection cannot. When it names a thread you don't immediately recognize, sit with it. Often the recognition comes later — when the next entry lands in the same thread and you feel the connection yourself.
-
Don't optimize. This is not an app that rewards gaming. The users who get the most from Book of Life are not the ones who record the most — they are the ones who record the most honestly. Authenticity is the only input that matters.
-
Pay attention to thread collisions. When the app alerts you to a collision, take a moment to sit with the insight before moving on. Collisions represent unexpected connections across time — they are worth more than a glance.
"Every day of use makes the next day more valuable. The threads deepen, the constellations grow, the wisdom gets more personal. The longer you stay, the richer it gets."
Book of Life is a long-term companion. Like any relationship worth having, it grows more meaningful with time, honesty, and presence. Welcome to your cosmos.
